To quiet the mind (Poem)

To quiet the mind of expectation.

To quiet the mind of need.

To quiet disappointment in the ones we love,

even when we cannot agree.

To quiet the mind of pressure.

To quiet the mind of chores.

To quiet the mind of last week's dinner,

and the childish feeling of being bored.

To quiet the mind of money,

oh, this would make you shine bright!

To quiet the mind of the internet chatter

and the family or spousal fight.

To quiet the mind of vanity,

and of shame and of blame and of grief.

To quiet the desire to tell some where to "shove" it,

when they won't simply let you be.

To quiet the mind of all anger, and of hate and of rage and of pain.

To quiet the mind of that mountain of laundry,

and that never-ending dream of false fame.

To quiet the mind of greed, and of hunger and thirst and of sleep,

and be willing to stay up all night feeling hungry for a cause that you truly believe!

To quiet the mind of fear, oh, this fear of death that's so strong.

To quiet the mind of the constant wondering,

"Will my life be too short, or too long?"

To quiet the mind of success,

oh god, wouldn't that be the BEST?!

To quiet the need to be more all the time,

and just know you are already blessed.

To quiet the mind of other peoples lives,

and what they are doing next-door.

To quiet the mind and pay closer attention to your own poor, battered old soul.

The soul which is praying you will someday escape from the burden of this cyclical mind.

To quiet the doubt, self harm, and insecurity, and wake up tomorrow being KIND...
